What an Internship at OBE Feels Like

Our interns told us what it was like working at our experiential agency this summer.

Every year, on the last Thursday of July, National Intern Day gives agencies like ours a reason to pause and say thank you to the next generation of talent bringing their enthusiasm and fresh perspectives to our offices.

Each summer, OBE welcomes a group of talented, brave, and relentlessly curious interns onto the team — and true to that description, they don't sit on the sidelines. This summer's cohort worked across our Creative, Production, and Account teams out of both our Los Angeles and New York offices, and they got pulled into the same rooms as everyone else — site visits, vendor calls, creative brainstorms, live brand experiences. So this year, we skipped the polished recap and just asked them directly: what does an OBE internship actually feel like, day to day?

Here's what they told us.

"I felt like a real member of the team from day one."

If there's one thread running through every response we got back, it's trust.

Kristen Williams, our Account Intern based in New York, put it simply:

/ "What surprised me most about OBE is how much trust the team places in its interns. I've had the chance to work on real projects, contribute to live activations, and gain hands-on experience that goes far beyond what I expected. It's made me feel like a true member of the team from the very beginning!"

Terrance Byrum, our Production Intern also based in New York, echoed the same sentiment, pointing to just how far that trust extended in practice:

/ "I was most surprised by the mentorship I received, how culturally driven OBE is, and the level of trust I was given early on. I've had opportunities to support site visits, installations, vendor communications, creative brainstorms, on-site activation checks, and both internal and external meetings."

"Everyone genuinely has each other’s backs."

Ask anyone who's spent a summer in an agency and they'll tell you: the work is only half the story. The other half is the people you're doing it with. For Chloe Castelli, our 2D Design Intern in Los Angeles, that's what stood out most.

/ "What surprised me most is how laid back, thoughtful, yet efficient, and creative everyone is! It's been refreshing to see how the OBE team functions as a unit. People genuinely have each other's backs, and there's a real team dynamic that drives everyone to do their best!"

"This internship made me realize..."

For some interns, the summer clarified a career path. Michelle Chan, our Production Intern in Los Angeles, came in curious about experiential marketing and left with something closer to certainty.

/ "This internship made me realize how much I enjoy doing event production and experiential marketing, especially in an agency environment! Getting to work with different team members on a variety of clients has been a truly rewarding experience."

For Linen Yu, our 3D Design Intern also in Los Angeles, the realization was less about direction and more about not having to figure things out solo:

/ "This internship made me realize that I'm not always alone when I have a question. Everybody at OBE is really happy to answer, and they also assign us a working buddy — so they always help us understand everything."

Why This Matters to OBE

We don't bring interns in to fill time or run errands. We bring them in because fresh eyes make our work better, and because the people who spend a summer here today are often the account leads, producers, and designers of tomorrow.

When reflecting on this feedback from our interns, the thing we're most proud of is that they will walk away feeling trusted, mentored, and like they belonged.
